the reichsbahn transferred s-bahn berliner verkehrsbetriebe (berlin transport) in 1984, , after public enthusiasm increased, preparations began in 1989 gradually reopening ringbahn beginning in 1992.


the fall of berlin wall november , ensuing german reunification changed plans: stretch of ringbahn reopened extended former east berlin , reopening deferred 1993. hermannstraße station rebuilt in new position under bridge hermannstraße crosses s-bahn cutting, hardly traces of historic station remain. new station has 2 entrance buildings on hermannstraße, painted blue , green draw attention connection between s-bahn , u-bahn line 8 @ station, realised after 60 years opening of u-bahn station on 13 july 1996.


service on western portion of ringbahn ceremonially relaunched on 17 december 1993, on stretch of line including hermannstraße station. station served 3 s-bahn lines originate southeast of city: s47, s46 königs wusterhausen , s45 schönefeld airport, plus 2 ringbahn lines, s41 , s42. new two-track turning area @ hermannstraße terminus of s47.


also since german reunification, mittenwalde line became route city s household waste conveyed in containers berliner stadtreinigung (berlin sanitation) depot on teltow canal hermannstraße terminus of line, known güterbahnhof neukölln, neukölln goods station, transferred deutsche bahn goods trains. in december 2005, however, district of neukölln decided convert unused track area in goods station industrial use; neukölln-mittenwalder eisenbahn wind operations there @ point in future. supposed regional railway station plans scrapped.
